In this paper, the in-cylinder thermal radiation of a small, high speed, direct injection diesel engine was studied. A radiant heat flux measuring system with incoroporate a radiant heat flux gauge, wa sused to measure the radiant heat flux of the the cylinder head wall and its variation with engine load and speed. A two zone radiant heat transfer model was established. The model considered the effect of heat release rate, adiabatic flame temperature, soot concentration ect. The calucated results were compared with the measured reslts and found to be in conformity with each other.
