An internet thesaurus/Dictionary for analyzing risk assessment processes,laws,and regulations

A computer-based thesaurus/dictionary was developed in response to a need expressed at an OECD workshop on risk assessment in the context of accident prevention,prepared-ness and response.The workshop concluded that htere is a lack of consistency in the use of terms in the field of risk assessment.In response to this need,the System described in this presentation consists of an analytical engine that parses the risk assessment process into its essential components,reducing these into elementary units called oeprational descriptors.The thesaurus is an online facility accessible on the Internet.This paper describes how the analytical structure of the System breaks down into their elementary components the regulations,laws,guidelines,and definitions that relate to accident risk assessment.THe reports that can be generated from the System allow for comparison of laws,regulations and the like using a common denominator of uniform descriptor terms.
