The paper discusses a novel method of using glass fibers with co-drawn wire electrodes to produce a plasma display. All components on both the top and bottom plates can be replaced with orthogonal arrays of glass fibers. Registration and tight dimensional control of the fibers during lay-up should not be an issue, since each plasma channel fiber includes the barrier ribs, the address electrode and the phosphor coating as one unit. Our alternative fiber based technology does not require any multi-level processing, allows for the manufacture of extremely large display sizes and opens up the usage of low cost soda lime glass substrates.
