A Peak-Method was proposed to determine reaction kinetics of unstable intermediates formed in series reactions. The Peak-Method can be used to study the reaction kinetics of unstable intermediates, whether the concentration of intermediates is proportional to their instrumental response or not. The reaction order of condensation of silicic acid, formed by the hydrolysis of tetraethylortho-silicate during the formation of monodisperse silica spheres, was found to be first in silicic acid concentration by the use of the Peak-Method. Relationship of the reaction rate constant with reaction conditions was determined and the conductances of reaction solution calculated by reaction kinetic model obtained in this work were fitted well to experimental conductances.
