Hydrated and partially reduced V205 nanowires with highaspect ratios have been synthesized by the hydrothermalcondensation of ammonium metavanadate. The V205nanowires can be fabricated into free standing and flexiblesheets. The V4+/Vs+ ratio in the nanowires can be increasedwith the hydrothermal synthesis temperature. The extremelylow heat capacitance of thin V205., sheets and the hightemperature gradient of resistance make them attractivematerials for bolometric (IR) sensing. The current responsivityof a 301.im sheet is S=dV/dQ =178 V/W.
