AN AIRLINE PERSPECTIVE: USER EXPERIENCE AND USER REQUIREMENTS

Manufacturers of modern civil transport jet aeroplanes have achieved considerable improvements in handling qualities, system integrity and the quality of the man-machine interface. There are, however, cases where flight crews do not have adequate information on the current status of their aeroplane systems with the resultant risk of incidents and accidents. Probabilities of aeroplane systems failure are shown. User experience in routine airline practice has shown that there is a requirement for manual intervention facilities under certain conditions.
