Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation modeling practicesfor FPSO hull current load prediction were consolidated in a JointDevelopment Project (JDP) and used to perform CFD simulations fortwo candidate FPSO hulls, i.e. a barge-type hull and tanker-type hull. The current loads predicted by the JDP participants using theconsolidated CFD simulation guidelines are fairly consistent, i.e. <10% differences. Good agreement is observed between the CFDsimulation and the model test results particularly for sway force andyaw moment coefficients. The CFD modeling practice will be furtherimproved and validated in a Joint Industry Project (JIP) to ensurereproducible and reliable results for simulations of hydrodynamicperformance of offshore platforms.
