Volvo Cars will launch a broad range of full electric vehicles between 2019 and 2022 under the brands Polestar and Volvo. These machines will be further fitted with a range of hybrid and hybrid plug-in options for all models, making it one of the world's broadest electrified car offerings in the market. A scalable modular system was developed taken into consideration different performance and installation requirements but also the ability to add future functions. This paper shows evaluation of different concepts and the design of an by Volvo Cars fully in-house designed, verified and manufactured e-axle transmission. Manufactured in engine plants alongside with awarded Volvo Engine Architecture powertrains. The architecture is scalable for a full range of power positions in future. Modularity considering not only design & installation but also assembly process, sourcing, procurement, development tools, CAE methods and models.
