摘要

Excellence in quality of a regional or national economy requires adequate quantitative literacy of futurecitizens, their deep understanding of scientific concepts, and particularly mathematical ones.Achieving this goal is a major objective of any education system. The research we present here is thefruit of an ongoing international collaboration on mathematics education with an innovative didacticaland methodological tool, MERLO (Meaning Equivalence Reusable Learning Objects), which is basedon shared meaning through different representations of a concept. This tool provides students withoccasions for exploring concepts, producing argumentation, and discussing those concepts andrepresentations in groups. Simultaneously, MERLO items provide teachers with a modern pedagogynot only based on lecturing, but on mediating the construction of knowledge and using formativeassessment for checking deep understanding of mathematical concepts.
