Motivation is a theoretical word used to explain behavior. It represents the reasons for people'sactions, desires, and needs. A motive is what stimuli the person to act in a positive way or at leastdevelop a disposition for specific behavior.According to Maehr and Meyer, "Motivation is a word that is part of the popular culture as few otherpsychological concepts are". 1970's Edward L. Deci and Richard M. Ryan have conducted researchthat in the long run led to the proposition of the self-determination theory (SDT). This theory focuseson the degree to which an individual's behavior is self-motivated and self-determined. SDT identifiesthree distinctive needs that, if satisfied, allow optimal function and growth: capability, affiliation, andself-rule. These three psychological needs motivate the self to initiate specific behavior and rationalnutriments that are essential for psychological health and well-being. When these needs are satisfied,there are positive consequences, such as well-being and growth, leading people to be motivated,productive and happy. When they are frustrated, people's motivation, productivity and happinesstumble.There are three essential elements to the theory: Humans are inherently proactive with their potential and mastering their inner forces (such asdrive and emotions). Humans have an inherent tendency towards growth, development and integrated functioning. Optimal development and actions are inherent in humans but they do not happen automatically.This research focuses on the individual's behavior called self-motivated and self-determined.Identifying five distinctive subjects could add to Egyptian university curriculum developing satisfied,function and growth: capability, affiliation, and self-rule. These five content curriculum subjectsrepresented as elective general subjects motivate the self to initiate specific behavior and rationalnutriments that are essential for long life learning. When these students' motivational needs aresatisfied, there are positive consequences, such as well-being and growth, leading people to bemotivated, productive and happy. When they are frustrated, people's motivation, productivity andhappiness tumble.
