India being a country of variety, there are a variety of issues as well as social, political, economical and so on. These issues are in the limelight always but some are still neglected. Amongst so many activities in our daily routine, which have some hidden serious safety issues, the school transport is one such activity, which is carried out daily in every city everyday. As this activity has a number of transportation vehicles nowadays, there are many users and the main users are school children. Tracking the history of school transportation in the past three decades earlier cycle rickshaw was used, then came the autorickshaw and eventually came the school vans. It is believed that the safety and personal security of the children who ride the school transport to school and home is the first priority of student transportation. Although, according to the Indian transport, the school van is the safest mode of transportation for children, it fails to provide safety as the interiors of the school van are not designed specifically for the small children. There are no spaces designed or allotted for their bags and other stuff along with their seats, which indirectly make an uncomfortable seating. The interiors to be developed should be a synthesis of both, company aesthetics and the aspirations of the target consumer segment: in this case, school kids. The number of preschool age children transported in school buses to school and child care programmes is an all-time high. Just as in other vehicles, these children need to be properly secured in child safety restraint systems (CSRS), when travelling in a school bus. It is also seen that congestion increases as the school transport vehicle reaches the school and vice versa. The paper will have a rigorous literature and data analysis, which will include statistics and ergonomical data. The further study shall include the case studies of various commuting vehicles and survey on safety parameters. Post research and problem identification, it will be examined if the school transport medium needs redesigning or not. Problems (if any) identified shall lead to the conclusions and also modify/redesign the commuting vehicle.
