A cost effective method for surveillance of influenza viruses A, B, C and D in swine oral fluids using a newly developed multiplex rRT-PCR - (PPT)

A rapid, multiplex, real-time RT-PCR has been developed that can detect and distinguish the four influenza genotypes. Results indicate that IAV can be readily detected in swine oral fluid (OF). Further study is needed to document detection of other subtypes in OF. The human-swine interface has important One Health implications that are not yet fully understood. Influenza surveillance targeting swine oral fluid while using a multiplex influenza test could help identify more non-Type A influenza subtypes that are needed for additional studies.
