CHEM 21 is a public private partnership funded by the Innovative Medicines Initiative and EFPIA. This consortium is focused on delivering new catalytic methodologies for the sustainable manufacture of pharmaceuticals. A recent analysis of the uptake of greener and more sustainable chemical technologies by the pharma industry highlighted biocatalysis as a technology that was being used, but probably sub-optimally.
