Poloxamer Gel as a Vehicle for Transdermal Delivery of Antibiotics: Use in Birds_

The functional polymers like poloxamers are extensively used in the pharmaceutical industry. These high viscosity hydromiscible vehicles provide controlled delivery of drugs. Due to broad compatibility with many different drugs and ingredients in formulations, poloxamers can be excellent vehicles for drug delivery. Increased options for transdermal medicating of pet birds may prove useful in clinical practice. Preparation by a compounding pharmacy of a transdermal poloxamer gel containing antibiotics shows promise for open, severe ulcerative skin wounds in birds.
