THE STUDY ON CONSUMING BEHAVIOR OF BEIJING’S RESIDENTS BASED ON SURVEY DATA

The energy consumption of Beijing residential sector was 11.67 million tce, accounted for 17.8% of total energy consumption in 2009. And the per capita energy consumption is 0.68 tce, which is sharply higher than that of the national average. What features will emerge in the daily consuming behavior of Beijing citizens? How about their energy-saving awareness and the tendency of consuming behaviors? Based on the survey data, this paper has analyzed the tendency of consuming behavior of Beijing citizens and their energy-saving awareness. The results analysis have found that the energy-saving awareness of Beijing residents needs further strengthening, especially those younger than 35. The living pattern of the public is now changing from the traditional saving pattern to the consumption pattern. As the income and education level increase, people tend to consume the high-energy and high consumption goods, such as buying cars and houses. Therefore, the government shall further strengthen publicity and education on energy-saving and emission reduction, improve the energy-saving awareness of the public and reasonably guide citizens to a saving consuming behavior pattern.
