At present, aside from the continuous interest in natural sciences (e.g., physics, chemistry, and biology) to discover the fundamental principles and rules governing the atomic-scale structure of materials, knowledge on applied materials at the nanoscale are also of premium interest. As the semiconductor industry clearly show the tendency towards the introduction of nanostructures in working devices, nanomaterials are actually in the "micro focus" of investigations of prestigious research institutions worldwide.
