Synthesis of Long Chain Bronsted Acidic Ionic Liquids

Bronsted acid functionalized ionic liquids, incorporating alkane sulfonic acid groups, have been limited to the propyl and butyl tether due to the limitations of sultone starting materials. We have developed a method utilizing thiol-ene chemistry to synthesize long chain (＞ 4 carbons) sulfonic acid ionic liquids.
