Cranial fixation devices are used to securely fixate the bone flap resulting from a craniotomy. Most cranial fixation devices today are either plates and screws or clamp-like devices made of titanium [1]. This study compares the properties of two frequently used titanium cranial fixation systems (Ti #1 and Ti #2), and a new 100% PEEK (poly-ether-ether-ketone) device: Cranial LOOP (NEOS Surgery S.L.) (Figure 1). The effect of the materials on load-bearing properties, artefacts created in medical imaging techniques and shielding of radiation in radiotherapy is analysed.
