Lessons learned from ILI-to-field-data comparison

THIS PAPER FOCUSES on in-line inspection (ILI) to field data comparisons. Det Norske Veritas (U.S.A.), Inc. (DNV GL) is a leader in the Pipeline Integrity Management sector of the oil and gas industry; and, we have assisted clients for 15+ years in all phases of the ILI process, one component of which is ILI-to-field comparisons. As a result, DNV GL has access to a significant amount of data that span many different pipeline operators, ILI vendors, inspection years, and inspection technologies (this paper focusses on metal loss or wall thickness inspections). This paper documents observations and lessons learned as a result of ILI-to-field correlations.
