Seismic Monitoring of an Architectural Heritage Building under Rehabilitation

In Romania there are many pre-code monumental buildings that need to be strengthened in accordance with the European and National Codes in force. A control method based on seismic monitoring of an AH building under rehabilitation in Bucharest, was presented. The building belongs to the first class of seismic risk following the engineering assessment report of 2006. In present, one of the seven strengthening solutions recommended by the Expert's Report is carried out. In order to check the solution adopted for rehabilitation, a modal analysis was carried out to compare the natural periods of the building in those two stages. The full-scale experimental analysis was carried out at two stages: in 2006 when the Expert's Report was completed, and in 2009 during the strengthening works. The natural periods of the building are significant dynamic parameters which give information relating to the building stiffness.
