Evaluation and Strengthening Guidelines for Federal Buildings: Assessment ofCurrent Federal Agency Evaluation Programs and Rehabilitation Criteria and Development of Typical Costs for Seismic Rehabilitation

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), in accordance withPublic Law 101-614, is developing seismic evaluation and strengthening guidelines (Guidelines for Federal Buildings) for federally-owned and leased buildings. The project is overseen by the Interagency Committee on Seismic Safety in Construction (ICSSC) and funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The report develops Task 2, (see Appendix A for complete scope of work) assessment of current federal agency evaluation programs and rehabilitation criteria and Task 3, development of typical costs for seismic rehabilitation. Part I of the Task 2 report includes a qualitative and quantitative comparison of six federal agency programs to the most recent versions of the NEHRP Evaluation Handbook and the NEHRP Techniques Handbook.
