On the Collection of Asteroidea from the Institute of Biology, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

摘要

The Collection of Echinodermata currently has over 3,400 lots, from which 452 comprise aster-oids. This collection contains 1,555 asteroid specimens classified into 11 families and 23 species. These species represent 36% of those asteroids recorded in Brazil so far. Around 89% of the deposited asteroids are originated in the SE Brazilian coastal region, 3% in the South, and 1% in the NE Brazil. Specimens collected in Argentina, Uruguay and Chile represent 7% of the deposited material. Even though this collection so far has represented mainly the southwestern Brazilian continental shelf, it has increased with specimens from the SE slope down to 1,700 m, and also from recent Brazilian Antarctic sampling programme.
