The results obtained for the fractionation of the tryptically digested BSA demonstrated that simple fractionation of the amine containing surfaces can increase the number of peptides detected and, consequently, the coverage of the protein sequence. The fractionation of BSA on heptylamine plasma polymer modified targets increased the coverage from 27% to 36%. The BSA fractionation on the APTES modified target increased from 27% to 49%. Future studies could lead to even greater coverage and detection of post translational modifications upon further optimization of the conditions. Future work will include improvement of the amine containing surface modifications via polymer brush synthesis and plasma polymer syntheses via different monomers.
