1. The platform for whole plant ~(13)C-CO_2 labeling plus LC-MS profiling was set up for dynamic study of glandular trichome metabolism. 2. Turnover of acylsugar in M82 plants indicates a potential pathway that leads to degradation of the molecule, suggestive of a genetic basis (e.g. hydrolases) that limits acylsugar accumulation. 3. The unequal rates of label incorporation and disappearance in metabolites and substructure fragments provide temporal information about rates of synthesis, degradation, and transport of the Solanum trichome metabolome.
