1. Visualization of flow patterns with schlieren imaging was utilized successfully to optimize sample placement relative to the FAPA source and MS inlet; 2. Planar surfaces are required to be positioned flush with the inlet orifice; 3. Capillary supports cause turbulence and perturb the gas flow; highest signal intensity results at the edge of the cap illary support; 4. Mesh sample supports require positioning < 1mm relative to the MS inlet for maximum sensitivity; 5. FAPA-MS/MS enabled detection of ppb levels of carbendazim on orange peel or in orange juice rapidly and with minimal sample preparation; 6. The LOD of 1 ppb and LOQ of 10 ppb were demonstrated and below the prescribed 17 ppb limit indicated as unacceptable by regulatory agencies.
