1. CID is a powerful tool to study cluster composition. 2. Without CID it is possible to study clusters at thermal equilibrium conditions. 3. The Mach disk after the capillary must be placed upstream of the first skimmer orifice. 4. The pressure between the capillary and the skimmer is critical: 5. To low: Collisions destroy the clusters but there are not enough termolecular collisions to produce new clusters. 6. To high: Large clusters are formed in a second expansion after the skimmer. 7. 10 mbar (fits with the kinetic model) => Thermal equilibrium conditions!
