In general, the polymer nano-coated MALDI target employed in this test proved to be suitable for archiving purposes. The low cost of polymer-based MALDI targets in microscope slide format make them a very convenient platform for long time storage of vacuum MALDI MS-prepared peptide/protein samples. Archiving of samples in subzero conditions proved to be feasible for most of the tested analytes for the investigated time frame of 6 months. In the case of immunoglobulin G, additional peaks were found which growing abundances over the course of time. Differences between sealed and open stored targets were not apparent over the time for same temperatures. Multiple preparations are clearly recommended, if possible, to enhance the reliability of finding good samples.
