LC/MS/MS determination of monoamine neurotransmitter metabolite in CSF.

In conclusion, we present a method for the selective analysis of neurotransmitter metabolites in CSF that uses LC/MS/MS-ES ionization. It is well accepted that tandem mass spectrometry detection provides increased selectivity compared to electrochemical detection (ECD). The stable-isotope dilution method allows accurate quantification of HVA, 5-HIAA, 3-OMD, 5-HTP and 5-MTHF even in the presence of drugs or other molecules that could interfere with the analysis.
