The charge carrying species of the precursor ion can be seen to have a dramatic effect on the resulting EID product ions, as shown in Figure 3 for compound 2. Changing the singly charged cation can be used to generate an even greater depth of information for compound 2. Most of the product ions from [M+Na]~(+)(Figure 3b) retain the sodium whereas all of the product ions from [M+K]~(+) (Figure 3c) retain the potassium. This can be related to reduction potential of the metals.
