摘要

Three new "non-acylcarnitine" biomarkers have been identified as arising from dextrose present in TPN solutions given to very low birth weight infants. Dextrose is not normally present at such high concentrations in infants and therefore suggests that its detection can only arise from a contamination of TPN solution with blood collected for analysis. The presence of dextrose indicates that the amino acids are likely to be artificially elevated and the analysis questionable.
