A new LC-MS/MS method was developed and validated for simultaneous determination of melamine and cyanuric acid in dry infant formula powder. The method has a 25-fold lower LOQ than the FDA reported method. Confirmation was achieved by the simultaneous monitoring of a second MRM transition and calculation of the corresponding ion ratio. High sensitivity, simple sample preparation, time-savings and low cost allowed this method to be successfully applied for the determination of melamine and cyanuric acid in commercial infant formula and some other commercial milk products.
