PATHOPHYSIOLOGY MANAGEMENT OF ACUTE RENAL FAILURE ASSOCIATED WITH CANINE ENDOCRINE DISEASE

The kidneys are both at risk of injury from a wide variety of endocrine diseases, and are endocrine organs as well. Renal response to endocrine disease can be recognized as failure to adequately concentrate urine, as is seen in diabetes insipidus andhyperadrenocorticism, while other diseases such as hypoadrenocorticism and hypercalcemia result in renal failure that can be acute or chronic. Treatment for some endocrine disorders like feline hyperthyroidism is confounded in the presence of chronic kidney disease. This presentation will review the mechanisms of acute renal failure, and highlight specific occurrences of renal disease with concurrent endocrine disease.
