A parallel unstructured incompressible free surface RANS solver developed at the UT SimCenter at Chattanooga is applied to the solution of large amplitude ship motions for the ITTC SI75 container ship in incident waves at Fr=0.2. Predicted pitch and heave motion amplitudes showed good agreement with the data from Ramos et al. (2000). Examination of the vertical accelerations at the forward perpendicular and the motion and wave fields show a strong nonlinear response for a large amplitude wave case, which was found to be associated with bow slamming, forebody plunging, and water-on-deck. The unsteady hull forces from the RANS solutions are being used to study ship hydroelastic'ity. Structural analysis results from a collaborative effort with the University of Michigan are also presented.
