THE USE OF DOPPLER ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY IN THE WORKUP OF EQUINE CARDIAC CASES: CASE DISCUSSIONS

Doppler echocardiography provides useful information in the workup of equine cardiac cases and can help in further characterizing the significance of disease, thereby providing the clinician a more specific prognosis for performance and life expectancy. As introduced in the preceding hour, Doppler echocardiography has three common modes: pulsed wave, continuous wave, and color. These modes are complementary and should be used in conjunction with one another to ascertain as completely as possible thehemodynamic relevance using noninvasive means. This hour will focus on a variety of cardiac cases for which the use of Doppler echocardiography adds valuable information beyond what 2D and M-mode echocardiography can give.
