Unlike human medical doctors who need to think only in terms of their "patient" (and in school, they need only learn the medical nuances of one, rather than multiple species), we are doubly blessed with both "patients" and "clients." What we do with our patients is usually the simple part. What we do with our clients is far more complex, often requiring significant expenditures of our time and creative energy. When you think about it, our roles as veterinary health professionals extend far beyond preserving and restoring the health of our clients' pets. On a daily basis, any one of us might be expected to assume the role of social worker, financial planner, decision-making advisor, and even psychotherapist. It's no wonder we're constantly running behind schedule!
