Nano-Scale ZrO2 films were produced on NiTi alloy orthodontic wires using electrolytic deposition to prevent corrosion and nickel ion release. Nickel ion release was observed in cyclic potentiodynamic test in artificial saliva at 31 OK. The amount of the nickel ion release was measured by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), and for the Electrolytic ZrO2 films samples, the nickel ion release level was 58 ppb. The ZrO2 film reduced the nickel ion release level by 78%. The cyclic potentiodynamic test results showed the lower corrosion density of electrolytic ZrO2 film than uncoated.
