With the increase in computing capability of modern computing workstations and the widespread availability of dual, quad and multi-core workstations as well as high performance clusters of workstations it is incumbent on the educational community to provide comprehensive instruction in parallelism and distributed processing to undergraduate students. This instruction must begin from the time they enter their education until their entry into the employment sector or into graduate school. This paper presents a new and different approach to teaching parallelism and distributed processing concepts to undergraduate students. Based on the Scheme programming language, this new approach is easy to learn and yet provides full exposure to important concepts of parallelism and distributed processing.
