IRP Site 50, Area 2, contains TCE-impacted groundwater from past manufacturing operations and surface discharges of waste. Prior to remediation efforts, TCE concentrations as high as 20,000 μg/L have been reported in source area wells. Vandenberg Air Force Base, and Shaw Environmental chose to remediate the most contaminated portions of the plume, specifically in areas where groundwater concentrations are present at levels above 15,000 μg/L. The approximate aerial shape and boundaries of the treatment area was defined using results of previously existing and newly-installed monitoring wells.
