Nature can inform us in many incisive ways on how to build structures, designarchitectures and fabricate material's with exemplary high performance usingminimal energy and substances optimized for many functions. A study ofnatural engineering structures has provided approaches for generating uniquescaffolds for use in regenerative medicine with the potential to outperformconventional advanced man-made functional materials. Biomimicry research, inessence, involves abstracting good design from nature [1]. This knowledgetransfer is often empirical. However, there is now a more systematic method ofacquiring such information using the TRIZ method of problem solving [2]. Theway natural systems allocate energy for different functions can instruct us onhow to best optimize the design of materials and structure with minimum energyand with molecular level control.
