Antalya Glass Pyramid building is a fair and congress hall built in 1997 in Antalya, Turkey. The floor area of the hall is 2.500 m~2 covered by a 7.000 m~2 glazed pyramidal shaped roof comprising a room volume of 35.000 m~3. It has been designed for multi-purpose use such as exhibitions, conference and concert activities with a capacity of 2500 seats. The subject of this study is to identify the impact of the hall's geometry on its acoustic performance for speech and music through the analysis of the objective acoustical parameters (EDT, T30, G, C80, D50 and LF80) calculated using computer modeling techniques. Additionally, the musical sound quality has been investigated in relevance with several subjective acoustical parameters including reverberance, spaciousness and warmth. The computer simulation has been carried out with an omni point source and 20 receivers. The findings from the comparative analysis of the room geometry response ray diagrams and the calculated acoustical parameters mean values of the 20 receiver points revealed a highly reverberant room with bad speech intelligibility rating due to strong late reflections from the high glazed roof and parallel lateral walls. An acoustical treatment and modification has been experimented through optimizing the room geometry as to achieve the room acoustical parameters satisfying both speech and music performances. As a conclusion the pyramidal geometry of the hall and surface finishes have been found to have a significant effect on some acoustic parameters notably the LF80 and STI parameters related with the spaciousness feeling and intelligibility of speech in the hall.
