INPEX CORPORATION is a global oil and gas exploration and production company, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. INPEX is involved in more than 70 projects in 26 countries. INPEX is a key player in world-class LNG projects through significant investments in Bontang LNG and Tangguh LNG in Indonesia and Darwin LNG in Australia. Now INPEX is moving forward as an LNG project operator, developing Ichthys in Australia and Abadi in Indonesia. Both Ichthys and Abadi are well-advanced and will contribute significantly toward the success and further growth of INPEX corporate values. The Ichthys Project is a Joint Venture between INPEX Browse, Ltd. (76%, the Operator) and Total E&P Australia (24%). The field is located in the Browse Basin, off the northwest coast of Western Australia. The Project is expected to initially produce approximately 8.4 million tonnes of LNG per annum, approximately 1.6 million tonnes of LPG per annum and up to 100,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak. INPEX is targeting first gas in 2015. The Abadi Project is 100% owned by INPEX through its affiliate, INPEX Masela, Ltd. The field is located in the Masela Block in the Indonesian portion of the Arafura Sea. Abadi is expected to produce a maximum volume of 4.5 million tonnes LNG per annum over more than 30 years of production. INPEX currently targets Abadi production beginning in 2016. In November 2009 an agreement was signed with PT EMP Energy Indonesia (EMP) regarding the assignment of a 10% interest in the Masela Block to EMP. This agreement is currently before the Indonesian Government for approval. This paper will outline the progress of these two major LNG projects, Ichthys and Abadi.
