MALDI-TOF MS for identification of organic-degrading bacteria in contaminated groundwater near unconventional natural gas extraction sites

As preliminary results, we were able to identify bacteria in groundwater in close proximity to unconventional natural gas extraction. Pseudomonas sp. was identified using both MALDI-TOF MS and 16S rRNA sequencing. Furthermore, MALDI-TOF MS proved to be a reliable method that allowed a simpler and faster identification when compared to conventional microbial methods.
