PCA plots from RP and HILIC separation and their corresponding Venn diagrams identify that PNEC metabolism is statistically diverse as a function of extracellular pH. Increasing extracellular pH enhances utilization of glucose and glutamine in media and secretion of alanine and lactate into media. Validation of metabolic shifts in PNEC cells exposed to different extracellular pH across three different analytical platforms (LC-MS, GC-MS, and NMR) has been shown. These findings underscore the importance of emerging paradigms that exploit the synergy of environment and therapeutic efficacy in cancer.
