Thread Spray Mass Spectrometry for Direct Analysis of Capsaicinoids in Evidentiary Garments

摘要

Novel thread spray ionization method was optimized using the following parameters: 1. 65:35 cotton: polyester blend shows greatest intensity at 5 kV; 2. Acetonitrile gives more sensitive calibration curve. Pepper spray and pure capsaicin can be detected and quantified in both positive and negative mode. Thread spray ionization is an effective method to determine the probative value of evidentiary garments that may have been exposed to pepper spray.
