Gas-phase HDX mass spectral results show the presence of stable ND_3 adducts for [Z-PG + H]~+, [Z-PG + Mg - H]~+, and [Z-PG + Ca - H]~+ and no ND_3 adducts for [Z-PG + Ba - H]~+ and alkali metal-complexed Z-PG species are observed. Gas-phase HDX mass spectral results show the presence of stable CD_3OD adducts only for [Z-PG + Mg - H]~+ and [Z-PG + Ca - H]~+. Results from DFT calculations suggest that availability of oxygen atoms from carbonyl groups are important for adduct formation in Z-PG species.
