SelecDve ion trapping through the use of SWIFT during LDI ion introduction is effective for improving ion S/N within dense spectra. Reserving ion trap capacity for the m/z range of interest optimizes performance and science return. Higher pressures during ion trapping require higher amplitude SWIFT waveforms and result in reduced mass spectral resolution. LIT MS/MS functionality requires intelligent use of gas present during experiment. Mars atmosphere (primarily CO_2) from ion introduction can be used as the buffer gas for MS/MS operaDon. Selection of when MS/MS excitation occurs during the pump down curve is necessary to optimize performance. Future work will focus on developing algorithms for automating these methods during Mars surface operations.
