Fast, unbiased sample preparation, combined with high resolution, high sensitivity mass spectrometry, led to the identification of over 1,400 platelet proteins, representing a significant advance in knowledge of the platelet proteome. The platelet proteome dataset was analyzed using tools available at the GPM, which provide an overview of platelet processes and highlight key pathways whose role in platelets warrant further investigation. This approach emphasizes the importance of mass spectrometry data as a hypothesis-generating platform, aiding in development of hypothesisdriven research questions that can be investigated in follow-up experiments, which should ultimately improve knowledge of complex biological systems.
