Higher energy is required to fragment the peptide if Lys residue is trimethylated; while lower energy is required if Lys residue is acetylated. Acetylation on Ser/Thr residues does not dramatically change the energy needed to break the peptide. m/z 126.1 is the characteristic ion for acetylated lysine. b ions with acetylated Ser/Thr are prone to lose H_(2)O and the acetyl group together. The acetylated Thr is more likely to lose the acetyl group than acetylated Ser.
