Electrospray-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (ELDI MS) has been demonstrated to be useful in detecting large and small compounds on the solid under ambient conditions. In ELDI, the analyte was desorbed using a pulsed nitrogen laser without using organic matrix. The desorbed molecules were then post-ionized through their fusion in the charged solvent droplets produced by electrospray; electrospray ionization proceeded from the newly forme d droplets to generate the ESI-like mass spectra (Figure 1). Since sample pretreatment is unnecessarily, ELDI can be used to rapidly detect the chemical compounds in solid. In this study, we report the coupling of thin-layer chromatography (TLC) with ELDI MS/MS to rapidly characterize the chemical compounds separated on a TLC plate.
