MAXIMIZING THE TRIPLE BOTTOM LINE: THE POTENTIAL TO GREEN A HIGH-END SUBURBAN COMMUNITY IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

This article delineates a design studio investigation conducted during the fall of 2005 in which a future expansion of the Lake Las Vegas Resort was reconciled with various ecological initiatives. The resort, a world-class suburban development surrounding the 320-acre human-made Lake Las Vegas, quarters many of the region's socioeconomic upper tier. Through collaborative design explorations with resort representatives, the third-year studio cultivated a 5-year master plan for the resort's most immediate future development. The master plan establishes an environmentally beneficial protocol that utilizes the region's most appropriate "green" technologies and renewable energy sources.
